Drugs seized by customs top 891 kg
Customs authorities confiscated 891 kg of illegal drugs in 315
cases during the first eight months of 2000, greater than the
total amount confiscated throughout 1998, the Finance Ministry
said Thursday.
The figure was announced during a two-day meeting of the heads of
regional customs offices that began Thursday.
Although the figure falls short of the record 1,395 kg confiscated
during the January-August period last year, this year's haul has
already exceeded the second-highest annual figure, of 863 kg,
seized in 1998.
